London Film and Comic-con

So last Sunday I went to the Londond Film and Comic-Con with Rima-chan of Rima's Otaku World we had a blaaaast!! It was very fun, we just missed Beri-chan and Vee a heck of a lot!!
It's not really focused on anime and manga so much (as you'd guess by the name), which was okay, because it made for a nice break, and we're both nerdy enough that we didn't feel lost in the sea of miscellaneous comics and Star Wars merch! XD

My morning was pretty leisurely which was good. I've been too tired recently to attempt anything close to rushing. I was cosplaying casual Soul Eater Evans for those that don't know ^-~. I got the train to London Victoria and then the underground to Earls Court (FIRST TIME COSPLAYING IN PUBLIC ON MAH OWN, AAAAAAnd my first time going on the underground alone *proud*). Got a bit lost on the Earls Court end, but followed the cosplayers and found Rima-chan who was wearing her rather spectacular Matryoshka Len cosplay!! We then skipped off to queue, and I met her dad properly for the first time. Luckily the queue didn't take long at all despite the fact it went right around the side of Earls Court 2 o.o'''

Once we got inside we got tickets and then went and did some shopping! We found a yaoi manga stall, and they seemed pretty desperate for customers, so we got given free stickers. Rima bought D-grey man doujinshi, whilst I was scarred for life by a Kuro doujin where Ciel had the biggest pair of tits I've ever seen (*twitch*).
I found volume 6 of Kuro (which I swear isn't supposed to be out here yet O.o?) which made me want to scream and run around in circles! CIRCUS ARC!!! YAYZA!!! Needless to say I bought it! Kukuku~
Then I got some pocky to curb my crazy hunger!! NOMBLES!!

We met up with her dad again and got lunch... I bought an apple and a Sprite because I'm too much of a stinge to spend money on food. And refused Rima's father's offer of a sandwich... I'd feel bad if he bought me food >.< we'd only just met!!
We ate lunch outside, and Rima gave me some chocolate cake (NOMZ!!!!) then we took lots of photos, and found some traffic signs that worked perfectly for Matryoshka Len! (You can find all those photos on Rima's DeviantART).

After lunch we went inside and watched the masquerade, then we went back to the yaoi manga stall and I got a cute looking manga called 'The Paradise on The Hill' about two school teachers at a posh all girls school!!

.... And then....... I found the NERDS!!!! OMG!!! So if you don't know what nerds are you haven't lived!! My dear Ami-kinz introduced me to them last October, and we had two packets a day each at EXPO, they're like, little balls about a quarter of a cm big, comprised mostly of e-numbers, food colouring, sourness and sugar! They. Are. AMAZING!!! Rima now loves them too >-> heeheehee!
They were so over priced, but I hadn't had them in a couple of months (you can't get them in England T.T) so I was like 'OMG OMG OMG!!'
We naturally ate them in Ami-sempai's honour!

After that we took some more photos and filmed a little so we had something to put on our youtube accounts, and then it was time to go home and sleep...
But I had a really awesome day, and I can't wait to see Rima-chan again!!!

~Now for Pictures~

We took tons more but I Didn't wanna kill your computers, and I think this post is long enough now anywayz!!

Next post will be a report on a loli photoshoot I did with Echo-Anechan of Ri's Rakuen~<3

Ignorance Pisses People Off!

So I was just reading a post on my friend Rima's blog, about an article that was published recently in The Daily Star. For those that don't know it's a gossip rag, which spouts endless shit about a lot of things that people care very little for. One of those tabloid papers that get terrible write ups for breaking up perfectly happy celebrity couples by fabricating affairs and the like.
But now it's taken the dive into fucking with cosplayers... I can't help laughing like a maniac here, because I know for a fact this is going to be one of the worst choices of their editorial history (THE ONLINE COMMUNITIES NEVER FORGET!!!!).
You can read the full article here but this is just a little excerpt:

"BONKERS Brits are planning to “wreak havoc” in the Big Brother house when it returns this summer.

Mad Big Brother wannabes are lining up to join the show and make the next series the wackiest-ever to hit telly screens.

They turned out in their droves yesterday as show bosses trawled a comic book convention for future housemates.

Staff hoped London’s Comic Con event would offer up some of the nation’s biggest oddballs.

And they were not disappointed as they hunted for contenders to enter the house that launched the celebrity careers of stars that include Chantelle Houghton, 27, Kate Lawler, 31, and Craig Phillips, 39.

Swarms of comic nuts turned out in fancy dress to compete for a place.

Many were dressed as their favourite superheroes such as Batman and Superman. Others wore even more extravagant outfits, trying to stand out from the outlandish crowd."

This article is peppered full of words like; "outlandish", "mad", "oddballs", "bonkers" "geek", "comic-nuts" and it even calls people such as Nicholas Cage and Jonathon Ross "self-confessed" comics fans. As if there is something to be ashamed of. The word confession has nuances of guilt, and suggests that an entire sub-culture of clever, educated, beautiful and creative people should feel guilty for liking something other people haven't heard of.

There are several quotes in this article that sound -and I'm completely agreeing with Rima hear- utterly fabricated!
From what I know of cosplayers, and I'm happy to say I know rather a lot having met hundreds of them, we are NOT destructive people. Most of us spend our lives creating, not destroying. So to read the words "I’d want to bring a bit of chaos to the house, it would be fun to wreck the place" makes me just a miiiiite bit skeptical.

Another thing I'd like to touch on is the use of rather... what's the word... school playground-ish words such as "geek", and "oddball". Surely, at least you'd hope, that a journalist would be more mature in their approach to this? And perhaps nix the insults and treat the cosplay community with some respect. Something they clearly don't have as cosplayers have been made into a joke in this article. Further encouraging abusive behavior towards comic, anime, manga and games fans.
And the government say that bullying is improving? Hardly, even the media are putting their two penneth in now!

I for one do not enjoy being reffered to as "mad" or "bonkers" when merely expressing my love for something.
I don't go around screaming 'WHORE!!!!' at any girl who walks down the street in shorts or showing off her stomach.

Of course another thing the asswipe of a journalist has peppered the article with are words such as "droves", "trawled" and "hunted". Excuse me, but we are not cattle to be rounded up and assessed.
I feel, personally, that the cosplay community wasn't just being delved into for possible TV talent it was being scoped out. Call me melodramatic, but it's genuinely how I feel.

But hey, if we get more news coverage perhaps that will be good. We'll become less of a 'OMG LOOK MUMMY A FREAK!!!' attraction.
I doubt that will happen though....

Please comment and share your views with me on this, I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Felt Like Chatting

Heyo!~
I just felt like I should update... I get this feeling when I'm bored, which is a lot of the time. *Sigh* It's not like I even need to update, because I've been a nothing short of spamming you guys with polyvore coords and little updates for the past couple of days :/ sooooo... GOMEN!!!

(Those who are going) are ya'll excited for EXPO? It's in 10 days!!! XD Well, 10 days tomorrow, but it's 8 minutes to 11 (PM) so the day is basically over >_>
Have you got all your stuff read? I have, but because of England's failure to supply clear, and undye-ified rubbing alcohol my Renge wig is still very much a blonde wig *facepalm* ah well. I have a plan, and it's called patience. *Nods*

Have you lot seen the guest line up up for this May? I'm not sure whether to be happy that there are loads of Futurama voice actors doing signings, or disappointed by the lack of anime voice actors. I'm wondering whether it's because EXPO has  a bunch of disorganised over grown anime nerds organising it, and they haven't got around to posting about the other guests on the site yet? It's not really their fault, but no one has organised anything for the MCM Fringe Festival either o.o'''' me thinks EXPO is going to be rather quiet this year. Well, if it is it'll be interesting to see what it's like.
I do love EXPO, and I've only been twice, so I haven't had much chance to get bored of anything yet... but if they don't start bringing new things to the table people are going to stop attending. I'm not sure what else they could do, perhaps have a lolita orientated area? Or more official meets and photoshoots? CMV and AMV contests. Formal dances, raves? Date auctions? More panels? Maybe they should follow the example of this tiny new con in Arizona and organises some themed (by series) cafés for thirsty conventioneers to attend or take part in?
Do you guys have any ideas as to what else they could do? Just to play around with the idea. I doubt they're going to change their plans any time soon...

I have another exam tomorrow... fuuuuun!!! Except this time it's at 2pm, so luckily I don't have to wake up at 6.30am again until the 24th. The thing I'm dreading the most is the a-hole, pissy, shouty teachers. 'IF YOU TALK YOUR PAPER WILL BE RIPPED UP, AND YOU WILL BE ESCORTED FROM THE EXAM HALL'. No joke, she actually said this. I was like 'Omfg! Meeep! >-<'
So glad I don't go to school! o.o

Well, I don't have much else to discuss now really. I think I'll save the other topics I was going to talk about for another post. There are a few things I'd like to do with this blog, such as start doing tutorials, and maybe start a couple of mini series'! What do you guys think of that idea?

Conventions: For First Timers

Hey guys!

Today I thought I'd take my mind off impending English GCSEs and write up this little guide. I made a video version of this a while ago that you can find on my youtube channel here, and I thought I turn it into a guide on my blog as well! Lets start shall we?

The Basics:
There are a few things that you'll need to know about cons before attend them.

Firstly, a lot of conventions require you to either pre-register (pre-book tickets), or buy tickets at the door. The price can range greatly from being free cultural festivals held in markets, to £5 per day, £10 per day, or £30 for the entire weekend. I've heard of cons in America costing roughly $50 for the whole weekend, which is about £30. The English equivalent of that would be around £70, which I think is pretty ridiculous! You could pay for travel, accommodation and food for that price!
You can buy your tickets on the door of some conventions, such as most English cons like London and Birmingham MCM EXPOs and Hyper Japan (but this can sometimes be more expensive than paying a couple of months or weeks in advance). You could also book tickets in advance, for EXPO I believe it costs £30 for the entire weekend, and that gains you entry to the vendors hall on the Friday as well, when it isn't open to those without weekend passes.

Secondly, conventions are busy places, and you're probably going to be doing a lot of walking. Which means you're going to get tired, and by default hungry. Make sure you have enough money on you to buy food. Once I decided to skip lunch and save my money for the vendors hall... bad idea! I had a piece of chewing gum which made me feel less hungry. And when I got back to my friends house a couple of digestive biscuits until we could be bothered to make dinner at 11pm. Needless to stay I was probably starving but after a while I got so hungry I didn't even notice it. >_<

If you're not going to be cosplaying or wearing lolita, make sure you're in comfortable (but cool!) clothes and shoes. As I previously mentioned conventions are often busy, and a lot of the time they cover huge areas. Whether that's hotels, university campuses or specially built centers, this means a TON of walking, and shuffling around in the corridors and vendors rooms. You get tired, you get blisters and these things lead to a grumpy you, and pissy friends. Not fun!

On the subject of grumpiness... some conventions in America (such as Sakura-con) have things called pre-reg days, where those who have already booked their tickets (those that bought their tickets months in advance) can queue up and receive their con badges. Which are the American equivalent of tickets. I actually like this idea more, as they're more permanent than paper bracelets and you can keep them forever as a record of the cons you attended!
But these queues can last hours, and hours, and hours. So take a DS, take an ipod, take a book, take a friend even. Take something to relieve the boredom! This will help prevent frustration and crabbiness later on. Occupied cosplayers are happy cosplayers!

Must haves:
Obviously there are things that you absolutely HAVE to bring to conventions, here's a list of things that you may or may not decide you need. Not all of them are essential, but some are!

Camera: obviously an essential! Cons are good times for doing photo shoots because you have all your cosplay buddies in one place, and if you don't have a photographer booked then you'll need your camera to take photos!
Also, a lot of people enjoy taking photos of other cosplayers, so it's a good idea to bring one to either do that, oooor film you and your friends being retarded con high idiots as you goof off and most likely injure yourself in some way or other!

Plasters: As I just mentioned injuries are common at cons, mostly due to your, or other hyper people being slightly retarded and doing something you normally wouldn't. Therefore a plaster or two may be a good idea. Either to patch up any possible wounds, to place over little toes or heels that are rubbing on shoes, or to cover some irritated skin if a costume is rubbing. I keep one in my camera case all the time!

Mobile/Cell phone: I promise you, you will DIE without this! I got left behind at the first convention that I went to, and if it wasn't for my phone I probably wouldn't have seen my friends again >_<
Cons are busy so it'll be really hard to find people again, or meet up with them in the first place if you don't have a phone. Don't forget to trade numbers with people who you will be meeting up with for the first time, though only if you trust them of course!

Notepad and pen: Often there are signings with voice actors or artists, and it's good to keep a notepad, and a couple of pens in your bag just in case they don't have paper or their trusty sharpies!

Safety pins: Or maybe even a needle and thread! To deal with any cosplay malfunctions that may occur!

Money: Well, this is kind of a no brainer! There's a vendors hall, obviously you're going to want to buy stuff! You're also going to need money for food, entry tickets and if you're taking public transport train or bus tickets if you don't have a pass or haven't bought them yet.

Pain killers: Some people like bringing a couple of pain killers with them to stop wig head aches in their tracks. Personally I'm the kind of person that dislikes conventional medicine and would rather rely on homeopathic remedies (WHICH DO WORK!!!! CHA!!!) to stop aches and pains. That or just ignore it. But wig head aches can be a right bitch when you want to enjoy a con so if you don't mind popping pills take a couple with you to ease the pain. OR go to your local health food shop and ask for/find some Arnica. This is a homeopathic remedy that works in much the same way as a pain killer. It's made from Arnica flowers. There are absolutely not side effects and the little sugary pills taste nice too! Though, you have to remember not to eat or drink anything (other than water) for a minimum of 5 minutes before and after you've taken it to get maximum results.
It relieves bruising and if you've fallen over and hurt yourself can help ease the pain and calm you down a little bit. I'd recommend Arnica at a grade 200, and if you can't find that, then grade 30, but take two pills instead!

Hand sanitizer: Yet again, not something I carry around with me. Not because I don't like it, but because I live in London, and have probably contracted many illnesses and diseases from just breathing in the subway air, let alone touching a railing at a convention.
But if that's the way you roll feel free to pop some in your bag!

Food: If you're stingy like me and would rather save your money then consider bring lunch with you. Whether you just bring a packet of crisps from home, or actually make a proper sandwich, bring something will help lower the amount your spend, or help you conserve money for another time!
If you're staying in a hotel nearby without any food this is kind of eliminated, but it might be an option to try finding a store of convention campus, which is often a WHOLE lot cheaper! Promise!

Contact lens cases and sterilizer: If you plan on wearing contact lenses with your cosplay, or fashion contact lenses in your lolita coordinate then it would probably be a good idea to bring your lens cases and sterilizer with you.
If you're staying nearby in a hotel you probably won't need to. But for those who commute from home to their local cons (for me it takes about 45 minutes to and hour) there's always the chance that you're going to be wearing them for as long, or longer than you're supposed to. It's nice to have the option to remove them as well they begin irritating your eyes.

What to expect:
In this section we'll cover the events and other things to expect at conventions.

Queues: We already really covered this, just make sure you've got someone to talk to, or something to do and they really aren't that bad! ^-^

Masquerade and cosplay contest: These are events that you usually have to enter a couple of months in advance, but basically a masquerade is a contest of skits! Cosplayers perform a skit that lasts roughly 5 minutes on stage and can win prizes, or trophies and certificates.
Cosplay contests run in a similar way, except they are more like a fashion show for you to show off your cosplay. Usually they have rules like 'you must have made the majority of the costume yourself. Shoes, wigs, headbands and other such items are exempt from this but you may NOT customize or alter other items for use in your costume!'
Pretty simple really!

Panels: Panels with voice actors where you can ask them questions, or panels run by other cons goers. Fighting Dreamers Pro have done panels on basic wig styling and cosplay on a budget. You can have panels for lolita, drawing, games or other fandomable things!

Signings: Either free ones, or ones where you have to pay £15 for a photo with the respective star or voice actor which they then sign.
London EXPO has played host to the cast of Merlin, the actress who plays Jackie Tyler in Doctor Who, many, many voice actors such as Yuri Lowenthall (English dub Uchiha Sasuke, and voice Ben 10!), and directors, producers and other actors from series' like Firefly, Stargate, CSI and Warehouse 13 (or whatever it's called >_<)

CMV/AMV contests: Contests where the best cosplay music video, or anime music video wins a prize!

Games corners: Often conventions have rooms or corners devoted to Yu-Gi-Ho, or Magic card players. Or places where you can test out new game releases (at the last EXPO you could test out the new Naruto game).

Cosplay picnics, cosplay olympics, meets and photoshoots: A lot of the time people attending the con will arrange their own fun and host events. They're all pretty self explanatory really, usually they are seperated/categorized by fandom (series).

Raves and formal dances: Yet again pretty self explanatory. Some larger conventions hold concerts where the bands or singers who sung opening and ending songs for anime or games will perform.
More common are raves and formal dances. A lot of the time people will just wear wigs, or other small aspects of their costumes with rave outfits or prom dresses. Or they'll make specially ball gown dresses or suits for the dances.

Artists Alley: A room or section of the vendors hall devoted to budding artists or those looking to sell their wares. Often lolita clothes, handmade jewelery, doujinshi, fan art, props or taking commissions on wigs or artwork.

These are just a few of the things you can expect from most conventions. You'll have to check out the time table for your respective con on your own because sometimes they offer other events like date auctions, tea parties, formal dinners etc that I have no experience of.
I hope this guide helped any first timers out, and maybe even gave those who've been to a few cons some new ideas!
If you have any questions or suggestions don't hesitate to ask!

I'm Back, and Cosplay Updates

Heeeey!!!

So sorry I didn't update for a while, I was staying with my Grandma and Grandpa on The Isle of Sheepy! I had a really nice time and I spent all of Monday and a bit of Tuesday sewing my Renge cosplay which I am proud to say is now almost finished!!! XDDDD
I was surprised how easy zips and gathers really were, but I certainly couldn't have done it without my Grandma's help.
I attempted to write a blog post but I really didn't have time. And I could barely keep on top of DA updates alone >-<

Just a preview picture, as I still haven't finished with the wig, which is when you'll get to see the entire dress!
It would also seem that I have a phony prince to stroll around with on Sunday, which makes me very happy! So there'll be lots of pictures popping up on my DeviantART after wards!

On Tuesday afternoon I went out shopping with my Nan. It was originally for sandals, but I really need to go to Camden to find the type of shoes I like *coughcoughmary-janescoughcough*. I did get a really cute white cotton vest top with eyelet lace and ruffles on the bottom, it's covered in little red roses! I luff eet! I also got some very nifty black and white pin stripe shorts for £4 from Scope! They're a size 12, so a little big, but if I move the buttons across they should fit perfectly!
(Random: I'm currently laughing at my sister as she has a mental break down because she can't log into Facebook!! Looool!)

Before I came home on Wednesday we went to the beach for about 5 minutes, my grandparents don't like the beach much anymore because they've lived by it for so long, and it was really windy out and slightly cold. But it was lovely to be able to smell the salt in the air and throw a few stones into the churning waves! I miss going to the beach a lot. Since we got Link we haven't been able to go down to see grandparents as much...

It might look very grey, but on sunny days it certainly isn't as nice, and it's also way busier and there are loads of chavs in their area so it was nice having it to ourselves!

Whilst I was away I finished 3 books!!! Well, two books and a volume of manga! ^-^
I'd already got quite a way into 'Mort' by Terry Pratchett and only had a little bit to finish, so I read that on Sunday afternoon in about 30 minutes! I really loved the ending, and I can't help thinking that Death is my favorite character!
Albert's pretty hilarious as well. I think it'd be cool to cosplay from one of the Discworld novels one day! Next I'd like to read 'Equal Rights' and 'The Hogfather'. I've seen the movie adaptation that Sky did of it and I really loved the story! Susan was my favorite character, with her blond and black split hair and her awesome 'whatever' attitude towards demons and demigods! Lol!

Next I read 'Yumekei Kenbun, Nightmare Inspector', I'm really not sure if I'll continue with this manga, I love the art style, but all it really is, is a collection of short stories, which can be a bit confusing, because they're not very clear. I may try and find it online so I can see whether I like the story enough before I go buying anymore volumes! Hopefully the story will get a bit better?
If any of you guys have read would you mind telling me what you thought of it, and whether it changes in later volumes? I'd really like to continue this series but if it stays like the I'm not so sure.

After that I finished 'The Toymaker' bu Jeremy De Quidt, the cover art suggests something very different to the rest of the story, and it really wasn't what I was expecting at all. I thought it would be a Victorian era London affair. With sinister, dark streets. Handsome brave men and frail and gorgeous heroins. But no, I won't spoil it for you, but it's still dark and sinister, more German than English. Especially in the names of the characters Koenig and Doctor Lieter being two of the more German sounding names.
Really this whole story was really a surprise, as I totally wasn't suspecting the rather depressing and tragic ending either.

I'm proud to say that I've had a productive week as a whole! ^-^ I did a mock exam today, my first taste of what exams are like went pretty well I thought. And now I know what to expect I should do a whole lot better in the actual test!!!

As for more cosplay news (if you didn't catch my last post), I have now finished my dark Alice cosplay, which I will be wearing on the Friday of May EXPO.
And this morning the kunai holster and shuriken pouch arrived for my Deidara cosplay! Which means that if you aren't counting contacts my Sakura cosplay is now finished also!!! I'm going to see if my sister can help me with taking some photographs over the weekend! XDDD

It's really not long until my exams now, or EXPO. I'm getting really excited, I can't wait!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and enjoy the day off tomorrow! This woman on my road has organised a street party to celebrate the wedding of the balding prince and the once upon a time chav! *Le sigh*

Com~PLETE

Wow, hey guys!!!
I can't actually begin to describe how busy I've been since my last update before the poem (I Miss You) one. It's been crazy! But that's nothing compared to how busy I'm going to get once May kicks off. I think I might just die... but I'm going to take every day as it comes and live in the present as much as possible!!

Anyway, this post is just to give you guys an update on what I've been up to this past week! It seems like I've almost been living at my sewing machine o.o

On Monday I made the Akatsuki shoe covers for my Deidara cosplay, and I also bought the bandages, so it's now finished!!! I think I'm going to use my blue contacts for it anyway because in certain lights you really can see the blue ^-^

On Tuesday I went to Lewisham town center after my English class and I bought everything else I need for my Renge cosplay! XD It cost £20.99 for all the material (4 meters!!! O.O), the scrap of pink for the bow, the ribbon and the zip, but I don't have to get anything else now so it's worth it.
As for the wig I'm not sure whether I can be bothered to dye it. I want to see what it looks like with the dress, because I feel like that much yellow is going to be really over powering. So we shall see!

On Wednesday, I bought the bandages for Deidara, and finally finished my Sakura cosplay from 2009! XD I hadn't ever bothered to make the proper shorts, and I'd just been rolling up a pair of leggings (and consequently stretching them really badly), so I took a pair of old black leggings I had laying around,  cut them shorter and hemmed them again! I'm actually really happy with them, and once the shuriken holster and kunai pouch come through in the mail I will have finally finished my Sakura cosplay! ^-^  I then made Renge's hair bow, which I'm also really proud of! I'd had practice from when I made the one for my dark Alice cosplay, but this one only took about half an hour because I used the machine this time! Thank god for sewing machines!!!

I spent Thursday chilling out, eating all her food and decorating cupcakes at my friend Maddy's mum's new flat. It's in a really big old Victorian house, and it's on the 3rd floor. All the ceilings are really high, and the rooms are HUGE despite the fact it's only a one bedroom apartment! ^-^

I went to Ikea with Maddy, and a couple of her friends from school on Friday, which was really fun. Though Maddy and Clemy were paranoid that we were going to get kicked out for not actually being there to buy things. Me and Sienna pissed them off further by having a toilet brush sword fight when we were walking through the market hall! Good times!!!
It was sweltering out that day though, and coming back from Ikea carrying a big plastic box, wearing jeans, a vest a blouse and boots on the tram and the bus is horrible!!! I survived though! And when I got home I changed immediately!

That evening I started working the on the skirt for my dark Alice cosplay. As some of you may know LolitaShow failed to deliver, and I'm now getting a refund (officially!! XDD) from them. But this left me with the dilemma of 'ACK!!! WHAT DO I WEAR NOW?!!?!??!!?!?!?'. I solved that problem by making a simple black lolita skirt out of a black cotton sheet that I didn't want anymore! I also made a detatchable bustle for it whilst watching Pride and Prejudiced (the one with Kiera Knightly), and Kuroshitsuji Musical 2; The Most Beautiful Death in The World. I finished it this morning and topped it off with an old apron I had hanging around from a dressing up set I got for my 10th birthday. I knew that thing would come in handy some day! ^-^

Please excuse my messy looking room!!! >-< You can't see it very well in this picture because of the light (I'm a retard for not using the flash >-<''''), but this photo is mostly to show of the bustle! I'll try to get some better pictures of it soon!!!

This is the other side, I was still wearing the bustle but it's just not so visible in this shot! I didn't get a picture of the front because it's really very plain, just a white apron!
I'll be taking some pictures of the entire costume first chance I get! I may enlist the help of my sister for that one on Wednesday. *Tries to think of suitable places in the garden!* ^-^

For a lot of the day today I've been revising because I have a mock English exam on Thursday, wish me luck!!! But this evening I cut out all the parts for my Renge dress apart from the skirt, which I'm going to tackle when I go to my Grandma and Grandpa's house tomorrow! My parents are only staying for the day, but as long as I don't have an English class on Tuesday (teacher wasn't very clear -.- curse her!) I should be staying till Tuesday evening. Which gives me plenty of time to put the whole dress together! ^-^

The material is actuall quite a lot darker than this, but I had to use the flash so it looks way lighter!
Thankfully my grandparents have wireless so I'll still be able to update you guys while I'm there!!!

If I can I'll drag them out to the beach and take some pictures for my DeviantART, isn't it weird that they live next to the sea, but my Grandma and Grandpa don't like the beach? At least not anymore o.o

Byez!! I hope you all have a nice Easter! And if you don't celebrate it, enjoy the holidays!!!

WigFever Review

Hello guys!

So today I received my Renge wig in the mail... I'm less than happy with it to tell you the truth, quality wise it's great! It feels thick, smooth, and the length is fine. The colour I'm not so happy with.
As we all know, Renge is basically ginger (or strawberry blond, seeing as her colour isn't really enough of a vibrant orange to be called ginger). It's a pretty awkward hair colour to find a wig for, and you'd probably be best dying your own hair if you want to cosplay her.

It's quite easy to err on the side of too blond, or the side of bright ORANGE when trying to find a wig for her. I genuinely believed that I'd found the perfect wig when I saw the 'long blonde cosplay wig' from WigFever on Ebay.

WigFever has an outstanding range of wigs, and my friend Ami bought a red wig for a Sasori (Naruto Shippuden) cosplay from them back in November 2010, it's actually the best Sasori wig I have ever seen and the only thing she needed to do to it was trim the fringe (or for you American's, the bangs) a little.
I'd say WigFever's only let down is that their postage varies from taking the standard length from Hong Kong to London - which is about 2-3 weeks - to taking 5-6-7 weeks. If you don't mind waiting, and you don't need your wig before a certain time this is perfectly fine. However if you do have a deadline to meet, you might want to try ordering as far in advance as you possibly can.

For the quality of their wigs, the prices are ridiculously cheap! And this certainly isn't a case of you get what you pay for, some of their wigs make appear a little thin, but it's not enough that you'd notice it unless you totally upended the wig! My Renge wig cost around £16, that's including the postage, don't be fooled by the fact it says the wig is about $7, be sure to check the postage, which is where they make most of their money.

The only reason I'm writing this article is to calm myself down, because right now, I swear I could cry. The wig I ordered appeared to be a more strawberry blonde colour in the stock photo on their Ebay page, when I opened it this morning I could instantly tell that my wig was not this colour. In fact, it's more blonde with a hint of green. A sort of weird mustard colour. I couldn't quite capture it in this picture, in reality it's much more yellow, but from this you can tell it's definitely not got any red it in at all *sigh*

As I said before it's a very awkward colour to capture in a wig, and it would also appear in a picture. The lighting they used for the stock photo is the only thing I can think of that might have altered the colour. I'd personally trust WigFever with either unnatural coloured wigs (aqua, pink, grey, white), and wigs of a very definite colour, such as black or bright red. They seem to have trouble with more natural wigs like blonde. Which is a real shame!

That's the end of my review guys! But don't worry, I'm not giving up on cosplaying our beloved self proclaimed manager of the host club quite yet! I've been looking up wig dying techniques, and I'll be sure to make a blog post documenting my exploits into that arena of cosplaying!

Random factoid:
I've had a problem with every single cosply for May London MCM EXPO this year. *Sigh* first it was the first pair of Akatsuki shoes covers I made, the material was rotten, so they ripped. Then my contact lenses weren't the right colour. Then the dress I ordered for my dark Alice cosplay didn't arrive (basically I had £41 stolen from me by LolitaShow), then I fucked up my first attempt at making Renge's dress by not making the skirt big enough, now the Renge wig I ordered is the wrong colour.
I think for some reason I'm just not meant to cosplay girls! I can't wait to be cosplaying boys with their trousers and short hair again in October!

Rantings and A Cosplay Update.

I feel the need to rant and whine, so why not here eh?

Firstly, as some of you may already know, I began sewing my dress for my Renge cosplay yesterday, it didn't go so well, and every time I think about it I feel like crying... I have the tendency to rush things, and I mean really rush things.
I've never cosplayed someone with a big dress before, so making something like this was a totally new experience for me, and it didn't help that I sent crappy reference pictures to my Grandma, so when I asked her for help I wasn't exactly asking for the right help. So basically I cut the top of the skirt part of the dress to small, so there wasn't enough material to gather when it came to sewing the skirt to the bodice. Therefore, it hangs straight down, and doesn't puff out at all.
To add to my problems my Grandma paid for said material and I now feel super guilty for messing up! And because I'm just that brand of retard I set the stitches to a very tight setting and now it's impossible to unpick, which means I wasted about 3 yards of perfectly awesome material.
Hopefully I'll be going to rolls and rems - my local haberdashers - on Thursday to pick up a shit load of similar colour material to try again with. Wish me luck that this time it works out better >-<

I became incredibly frustrated with my parents earlier and threw a rather stereo typical, and pretty pathetic teen tantrum. The only difference between that, and a real teen trantrum was that I was using words like unreasonable, double standards, hypocrite, ridiculous and other various three syllable words. Mostly to insult them and prove that I wasn't sinking past the level of intelligent speech as I screamed into my wardrobe, cried and punched things >->''''
The reason for this shameful outburst? My dad saying that I couldn't get these two epic necklaces from Tuxessories . A company run by a bunch of cosplayers in the Philippines. In my defense, I think I'm almost on my period (I get really emotional right before, not during, I always feel really calm and chilled out then O.o), and my dad is always doing this to me, saying yes one day, then irrationally changing his mind the next... *sigh*

The second necklace is my favorite one! ^-^ The katakana in the middle read 'Yaoi' and I seriously think it is the most awesome necklace I have seen my entire life!

In other more positive news, I got a strip old beige black out blind material from my Nan that's going to be perfect for the clay bags on my Deidara cosplay! I also got hold of a large white sheet that I'm going to probably be using for Akatsuki shoe covers, and for the collar and cuffs of my Renge dress. It was originally going to be mostly used as an apron, but seeing as LolitaShow have totally fallen through with the dress I doubt I'll be cosplaying dark Alice anymore. Which means I have to inform my rather moody, dark Cheshire of the bad news and most likely have her gripe at me for it >-> but we'll see, I might be able to knock something together out of a black sheet! I'm thinking a JSK of some sort?
Last night I also ordered the shuriken holster and kunai pouch for my Deidara cosplay! ^-^ And like, 3 minutes ago my dad just came in and told me that I don't have to pay him back for it because he's been buying my sis Naruto manga. Which is awesome!!

Moving on from cosplays for May, I think I found a wig for my Soul cosplay. It's actually a Ichigo Kurosaki hollow wig from ebay, but with some (= quite a bit) of styling I think it'll look awesome!!

Sorry that the pictures so small, I had to go to google images and find a wig the same as the one I found on ebay because when I tried to drag the picture off from ebay it didn't work ^-^'''

As a summer cosplay, I've decided on another secret one! I wonder if you can guess what it is, you're only clue is this...
"KOIKOI!!!"
Have fun figuring!!!
All you guys need to know is that I found the perfect wig for it, and that it's going not going to be worn to any cons, just for photo shoots ^-^
Still on the subject of wiiiiigs I've been thinking a lot today, and I'd really like to get my Sebastian wig as soon as possible, at least that way I can have one of the major parts of the costume all ready and waiting for October, and also maybe do a couple of casual (or AU) cosplay photos or crack videos with either my Young Master (Kumi-chan, when she gets back from Japan! ^-^) or Alois coughwhorecough Trampsy XD who's going to be cosplayed by one of my good friends Belle!! ^-~

I seriously cannot wait to cosplay dear Sabi-kun! It's become sort of a dream cosplay for me, and I really do want... no, I need to do it justice! ^-^ I get really frustrated when people portray him poorly and I can't help saying 'well why did you even try, he's too good for you' in my head. Which I know is a hell of a lot bitchy, and very cosplay snobbish. Which is why I always feel really guilty and bad when I think like that.
I'm not sure whether people will be able to relate, but you muuuust have that one special character that you can't stand to see portrayed badly, I know for one of my best friend's it's Sasori, she actually starts ranting out loud if even the way the wig is cut isn't correct. It's the same for me with Sebastian, and I'd be like, the biggest hypocrite alive if I went and cosplayed him crappily. That's why I'm already working on it.
One thing I'm worried about is my eyebrows :/ they're kind of... dark blonde/dark ginger and not particularly thing either. I've been putting it off, but I guess I'm just going to have to attack them with a pare of teasers >-< and then darken them with an eyebrow pencil (random factoid: My friend gave me a black one for my 12th birthday because she though it was eyeliner... maybe she's psychic. I didn't even watch Kuro then XD). I just don't want to do it badly and end up looking permanently surprised for months afterward. Ah well, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, I guess ^-^.

And omg, last time I posted a cosplay update, like, a full proper one on here, with detailed lists of everything I'd need for the characters I totally spaced and forgot to add white gloves to the Sebby list o.o'''' I've been meaning to go back and correct it for about a month, but I just can't be bothered >->''' anywayz, I totally need white gloves!
And just as a question to those of you that have watched Kuro, and have either crushed on Sebby or Claude... is it just me or, are gloves now suddenly incredibly sexy??? XD Hahahahahah, well do get back to me on that one, either on here or on DA or youtube, I'd love to know whether I'm a freak or it's actually a natural thought process! Lol!

I think that's about it for cosplay updates, and they're the main ones, nothing much has happened regarding cosplay recently, I've slowed right down again T.T...

So, this afternoon I went on another hunt for later parts of the first Kuroshitsuji musical >-< it's my dream to one day seem them on stage, and I desperately hope that they are still running when I'm old enough to go to Japan, but if not, I at least want to see them in DVD form and understand every word!
Unfortunately no one has decided to sub it for some insane reason, if I could understand Japanese I'd have done it myself by now >-<... which brings me to my point! I'M GOING TO LEARN JAPANESE ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!
I've toyed with the idea for about 2 years now, and I seriously don't know why it's taken me so fucking long to just knuckle down and learn it. There are two main reasons why I want to learn it. And they're actually two of my biggest motivators. Friends, and sexy butlers!
Lol! Well, just to elaborate further, I want to learn it, firstly so that I can talk to my friend Kumi-chan (or Vee) in Japanese when she finally makes her grand return to England this May after 6 freaking months! And reason number two, is so that I can watch the Kuroshitsuji musicals! Which is why this falls under the category of 'sexy butlers'!!

Expect a couple of review like updates from me soon, one reviewing 'Ciel in Wonderland' the Kuroshitsuji OVA that recently concluded, and the other a review of the shitty company LolitaShow that no one should EVARRR buy from (that will be further elaborated on in the actual review.)

Just A Little Update

Hey guys! Sorry for spamming you with posts at the moment, it would seem I just have a lot to say! ^-^
This post well be rejoining the fabulous world of cosplay, as we've been absent from it for such a very long time.

Firstly, lets get the bad stuff out of the way; you know that dress that I was supposedly getting from LolitaShow? Well, they're seriously fucking around right now. My dad texted them yesterday night, because the dress was supposed to arrive on Monday and it didn't. I've decided that if they try to make excuses again, I'll just ask for a refund. Soooo, my dark Alice cosplay may be put on hold a little while, at least till I can afford another dress from a more reliable company :/....

More positive stuffz now! Today I walked to Penge which is right near where I live, and I managed to get hold of some shoes for my Renge cosplay!
They're just simple black ballet pumps, not quite what I was looking for but they'll have to do.
They're also good because my feet won't get to hot when I wear them at EXPO! My only problem with them is that I had to get a UK size 9 because 8 was to small. It's just a nine is a bit to big >.< I'm now torn between wanting my feet to grow a bit, and wanting them to stay the same size. I really like the cute little bows on the toe! XD For £4.99 they're pretty good!

I also bought a plain white sheet for £5.99 which I can use for Akatsuki shoe covers, and an apron! I just hope there's enough material. There should be :/ *fingers crossed*
Along with buying stuff I needed for cosplay, I also came across this AWESOME shirt in a charity shop that I went in to look for pink material! It's a black and white pinstripe ladies shirt, but it's got this really high collar that look really interesting when done up, and the sleeves - which are meant to have cuff links - look awesome just hanging loose! I love it!

Aside from finding shoes, I've also made major progress with my Renge cosplay! I ordered the wig, and my mam found a polystyrene wig head in a store in Brixton Village! XD So all I need to do now is order some Got2b freeze spray and I'm ready to style once my wig arrives!

My amazing Grandma also very unexpectedly figured out a pattern for the dress, which I just have to print out and re-size! She also, being the awesome woman she is found some perfect yellow material in a shop in near where she lives, in Kent. She won't let me pay her back for it either. I think I'm seeing her next weekend so I'll be able to pick up the material then! ^-^
I'm not quite sure what to do about the material for the collar and cuffs of the dress, but if my dark Alice cosplay plans fall through I will be able to use the material that I was going to use for the apron for those. I still need to buy some pink material, a zip and some thread from Rolls and Rems (my local haberdashers) so I don't mind getting more white then!

That's all for today cosplay wise folks! I'll be updating again today with another lolita post!!!

When Parents Won't Allow It

Good evening ya'll! This will be a post about parents who won't let their kids cosplay, and the possible misconceptions that could be driving their decision.
I've been thinking about it for a while, and I finally came to the conclusion to just 'go ahead and write it!' this blog is currently and primarily here for people of the age where they are still under the ruling of parents or guardians, those who still live at home and don't have the right to say, 'I'm an adult! Get out of my life!!' Without getting grounded and their privileges forcibly removed.

I shared a reasonably brief conversation with a girl on youtube a while ago, who wanted to "crossplay", that is, she wanted to cosplay a boy. She'd been fighting her parents over it for months and they'd been telling her that a) no, she could not bind her chest, it was unnatural, and b) she was a girl, and it was strange for her to want to wear boys clothes.
Something I would like to ask the parents is this; 'when you were little, and you played pretend games with your friends or siblings, did you not at some point pretend to be a prince, a princess... or a knight? A little pickpocket boy? Or a flower girl?' if they answered no, then I'm almost positive they'd be lying. Who hasn't wondered what it would be like to be the other gender in their lifetime? some people feel so strongly that they should have been born the opposite gender that they decide to undergo hormone therapy and have varying surgeries. I suppose these parents that ban their children from cosplaying a character of the opposite gender are the same people who are averse to FTM or MTF transitioning as well?

Getting back to cosplayers... my own personal take on this is that it's only dressing up, just a little more elaborate. Like putting on a costume to appear in a play, you wouldn't stop a man playing the part of Juliet if it was a traditional production of Romeo and Juliet would you?
Personally I don't know what I'd do if my parents wouldn't let me cosplay boys, because of my height, and natural flat chestedness I find it a WHOLE lot easier to don the garb of a male character. That's not to say I don't enjoy being a girl, because I wouldn't give that up for the world, but cosplay is different.
My parents and family are quite open, the only people who have ever seemed to have a problem understanding the things I'm interested in are my Nan and Grandad on my mother's side. They (oh so stereo typically) watch a ton of television, and there fore go along with a lot of common misconceptions.

Which brings me to the many things people think cosplay means.
Really, there's only one HUGE biggie that parents have MAJOR trouble with... "cosplay is dressing up in slutty kitty maid outfits and saying 'nya' all the time whilst bending over in a suggestive manner for photographs taken by older, badly dressed men with hygiene issues". Toooootally wrong there oh dear adults who govern our lives!!!
Just to confirm, if there are any research driven parents reading this, no, it is most certainly NOT like that!!! Cosplay, is the portrayal of a character from a manga, anime, tv show, book, film or video game. An no, not all anime is full of sluts, and big breasted, innocent, confused, young girls. Not in reality. You wanna see what real cosplay and anime are like? Go search Fullmetal Alchemist (cosplay), or perhpaps Naruto Shippuden (cosplay)! That should give you some idea of what some of the most famous anime in the world is like.

Moving on. Other parents may think that cosplay is a way to draw attention, and is just a plea for someone to look at you. But truth is, many cosplayers were nerds and losers in school and they had always admired the people who had the courage to dress up as their favorite characters, and then one day decided that they had that courage as well. Others just naturally arrived at the decision, such as myself. It seemed fun, plus I needed a Halloween costume ^-^

(Note, this was not my first cosplay!! It was my 3rd, and the second male cosplay I had done. My first was terrible so no one shall see evidence >_>)

Another thing parents associate with cosplay, is lolita. Because of lolita being abused in anime and manga throughout the years it has come to be viewed by those on "the outside" - as it were - as something sexual, and something girls wear to attract the attention of pedophiles. Mostly because of the novel 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov. Thus, parents associate anime with pedophiles, and cosplay with pedophiles, and conventions with dark corners for said pedophiles to lurk in.

Now, doesn't it seem that all of these misconceptions have been just about cosplay as a whole? Well yes, they all are. It's only made a little more confusing for parents or grandparents when you say, 'oh yeah, and I need to find some good heels for this cosplay as well' just after you've explained that it's a boy you're cosplaying. My nan's reaction was, 'so.... this is a boy... who wears heals?... Is he a heshe or something?' awkward much? It's hard to explain that you're not cross dressing (because that is basically what it is, nothing wrong in that though XD) as a boy who's cross dressing as a girl? >_<

And thus, I am done with my rant. I truly hope that if you're reading this, parents, you will reconsider your decision about not letting your child cosplay or crossplay. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them!

All the cosplayers featured in this article are girls cosplaying as male characters.

Cosplay update: February

Hey guys!! So recently I've been trying to work more on my cosplays because I have the date for my exams all set and stuff! XD It's nice to know when I'll be taking them, but scary to have everything finalised. So seeing as I'll be taking the last one (English literature) THREE DAYS before EXPO I think I need to get my lazy butt in serious gear? Ne?

Right, so lets get down to it!!
Firstly, my ring and headband for my Deidara (Naruto Shippuden) cosplay arrived a few weeks ago and I just haven't gotten around to photographing them and writing the post to put said photographs in, but here they are!! ^-^

The headband is by no means at all thick, it's one of the more tin-y ones, but I have a blue Konoha one made in exactly the same way so I like this style! I find the other ones that are like, proper think metal to heavy ^-^''''
And a close up on the ring?

The kanji on Dei's ring stands for Ao, which means green or blue. ^-^ I took that to mean that it basically means aqua, or turquoise? The only problem with this ring is that it's just a weeeee bit too big for mah finger, my dad says he's going to help me bend it a little bit smaller but he has yet to follow up on that -.-*...
Okay, next thing I need to buy for this cosplay is his shuriken holster and kunai pouch, I found a good one on ebay! So I should be getting that soon-ish XD

To finish off the update on my Deidara cosplay, I have the trousers, and the materials to make his top, I need white material for the shoe covers and kahki material for the bags he keep all his clay in, once I have the material sewing them won't be a problem! And of course I have my wig and the Akatsuki cloak ^-^

Oooookay, lets see, if I was doing this in order the next thing I progressed with would be my Sebastian cosplay ^-^ I found Sebby's gorgeous tail coat on FanPlusFriend for about £50 which I will be asking for for my birthday ^-^

(C) of this photo goes to it's rightful owners! I don't gain anything by displaying it here.

The next smaller items that I have accumulated for this cosplay aaaaare, the shirt (it's the same shirt I used for my Ciel cosplay <3, the collar fold fine and everything so I figured I'd use it!), the tie and for Christmas I received Sebby's pocket watch from my little sister (props to her for knowing me very well XD). That's about it for my Sebastian cosplay!

I may possibly have trousers that I can adapt for it, but I'd have to check the length and take them in at the bottom because they're flared ^-~
Regarding shoes for Sebastian, I should be getting black platform boots for my birthday XDDDDD *squeal* so that will probably make me the same height, if not taller (>_<'''') than he actually is in the series O.o I also may be getting the wig for mah birthday ^-^

Okay, now, continuing on from that lil' detour >_>''''.......... I MADE TEH BOW FOR MAH DARK ALICE COSPLAY!!!!!!!! YEEEEEEP!!!!!!
It took me a day and a bit, and about 15 episodes of Charmed to make XDDDDD BUH AH FINISHED EEEET!!!!!

What do ya think? I'm personally really proud of it, and I have discovered a love for headbows!! Which is pretty epic because I need to make another one in pink for my Renge cosplay, and now I know how to make them I can make any number for future loli outfits as well ^-^
I also purchased blue contact lenses in Tokyo Toys, but they unfortunately don't show up and just make my eyes look big, creepy and black, so I'll be wearing them for this dark Alice (IWL) cosplay instead of Len, Ciel, Deidara and many many more >_<'''
The dress for this cosplay (that I won't be posting a picture of here seeing as it's already been featured in TWO other posts) should be arriving this week, or Monday at the latest. If it hasn't arrived by March then I'll be having stern words with Lolita Show >_>*
And on Saturday I'm going to Camden market with one of my awesome buddies! And fellow cosplayer so I shall update you on what went on then but I should be getting the tights, or "nylons" for this cosplay then as well! Classic stripey Alice stockings! Once I've got the pattern for my Renge cosplay I'll go out and buy material, and get the material for the apron I'm going to be wearing for this cosplay as well <3

In other news: I'll be cosplaying Soul from Soul Eater in July with mah adorable lil' honorary sister as my Maka <3 and I'll be re-wearing it again on the Friday of October EXPO ^-^
My Renge cosplay? Well, I've made absolutely no progress with it what so ever >_<'''''' I may try and get some white stockings for it on Saturday, and I have her hair colour (just need longer hair, but it WILL grow for May... >_> it wiiiiiiilllll!!! *Eyes burn with passion*) and eyes, so I guess that's a little bit of progress??? Can I get away with calling that progress? o.o''''

Anywayz, I'll be going now, by darlings!!! ~ <3

OMGAWD! COSUPURE

Time for a wonderful trip into the wonderful world of COSPLAY!!!! <3333333

As you can tell I totally <3 cosplay, and to avoid sounding like a blonde bimbo I shall stop saying that I "heart" stuff >_>''''''

Anyways, as some of you may not know, cosplay is the art of dressing up as your favorite character from a; game, anime, manga, tv show, book, film, anything else you can think of. It's very fun and hugely popular. Unfortunately, it is also quite frequently misunderstood by adults. I've spoken to several people online who's parents aren't happy about them cosplaying, and even worse so refuse hands down to let them "crosplay". I don't usually use this term, and prefer to just refer to cosplaying both boys and girls to just "cosplay". Some people though, like a little definition, or find they need to explain themselves a bit more.

I am in fact female (if you hadn't guessed already)! And I tend to cosplay more guys than girls due to my height and the fact that I tend to relate to the male characters more than the female (I guess O.o).
I'm happy to answer any questions on cosplay/crosplay that I can, so ask away!

Cosplays I have done:
Haruno Sakura (Naruto)
Kagamine Len (Vocaloid, will be re-cosplayed at some point)
Ciel Phantomhive (Kuroshitsuji, most recent finished-ish cosplay and my favorite so far as well)
Alternate Universe (high school) Uchiha Sasuke (Naruto, boring Ami-sempai's wig)
Alternate Universe (high school/college) Deidara (Naruto Shippuden)

Upcoming cosplays:
Alice (Alice in Wonderland)
Renge Houshakuji (Ouran High School Host Club)
Deidara (Naruto Shippuden, I need to finish his outfit)

Steampunk outfit (from my steampunk book which I am currently working on)
Mello (Death Note)
Sebastian Michaelis (Kuroshitsuji)

Young Remus Lupid (Harry Potter)
Axel (Kingdom Hearts)
Merleawe (MagicalXMiracle)

Asahina Mikuru (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Kiryuu Zero (Vampire Knight)

Hopefully all of these will happen in the next year and following year XDDDDD
